Everyone at Saurashtra Cricket Association are saddened on sad demise of Shri Akabarkhan Babi, popularly known as A U Babi and Babi Saheb. He left for heavenly abode yesterday.

He was from Babi Family of Junagadh and settled in Rajkot in 1960. He started his Cricketing Career under Velji Master in Gymkhana Ground of Rajkot. He got training as Coach from Velji Master.

Babi Saheb was one of the pioneers in Cricket Coaching in Rajkot and Rajkot District.  He has always been considered as one of the very remarkable Coach. He served in Cricket Coaching more  than four decades. He trained three generations in the World of Cricket. He was close friend of Vinoo Mankad and many other prominent cricketers. Many remarkable Cricketers from Saurashtra had coaching under Babi Sir, that includes Former Test Cricketer Dhiraj Parsana; and also Uday Joshi, Niranjan Mehta, Mahendra Rajdev, Bhupendra Mandaviya, Atul Mehta, Jyotindra Baxi, Arvind Panchasara, Jaswant Bakraniya, Bipin Pujara, Bimal Jadeja, Mahesh Chauhan, Hitesh Parsana, Imtiaz Babi, Rajesh Gorsandiya, Sudhir Tanna, Brij Dutta, Harshad Joshi, Chetan Mankad and many more. Vandit Jivrajani & Kishan Parmar too had coaching from Babi Sir. Vinod Kambli also had brief training under him.  He had trained good cricketers from Saurashtra in India level of School Cricket. He contributed to Cricket very selflessly and honestly. He had helped many Cricketers to build up their career. He was active in coaching at the age beyond 80. He was probably first coach to adopt effective Australian method of Cricket Coaching in India. He also served as Coach of BCCI. A true Cricket lover and Guru.

 Niranjan Shah, former Hon. Secretary of BCCI & SCA conveyed heartfelt sympathies and expressed, “Babi Saheb was the man with quality, ethics and great cricketing capabilities. His dedication and contribution in Cricket Coaching shall be remembered forever ”

Former prominent Cricketer Mahendra Rajdev fondly remembers Babi Saheb, “ He was father figure to me. He helped me to build up my Cricket Career. He was very noble and humble Human Being.”

 Everyone in Saurashtra Cricket Association conveys heartfelt condolences to  family members on sad demise of Shri Babi Saheb and  pray Almighty to grant eternal peace to his noble soul.
