Niranjan R. Shah
Right from his academic career at school and subsequently at college, Niranjan Shah had very keen interest for and involvement in sports and cricket activities. He was first elected as Hony. Secretary of Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) in 1972-73 and thereafter continued giving honorary services to Saurashtra Cricket Association for development and betterment of Cricket.
His performance in Inter-District Cricket Tournament during 1966-67 was a base for his selection in the Ranji Trophy team of Saurashtra. He made debut in Ranji Trophy tournament in 1967. He was an opening, forceful and attacking left hand batsman. He captained Saurashtra Ranji team in 1973 and represented Ranji Trophy tournament for Saurashtra from 1967 to 1972.
Since 1972 - 73, he has been representing SCA and has been serving as a member of various committees of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He was elected as Hony. Jt. Secretary of BCCI for the year 1992 - 93. He was elected as Board’s Hony. Secretary for the year 2001- 02 and was again elected as Hony. Secretary of BCCI in November 2005. In September 2006, in a most prestigious and uncontested election, Niranjan Shah was re-elected as the Board’s Hony. Secretary for a further term of two years. This re-election speaks volumes of his ability, efficiency and dynamism. He has also been Vice President of BCCI.
During his tenures as Hony Secretary of BCCI as well as SCA, he has played vital, important and effective role for Cricketing betterment of players (especially of domestic tournaments), retired players, infrastructure and popularity of Cricket.
He has given services in various committees of BCCI such as disciplinary, World Cup 2011, Marketing, Finance, Technical, Programme & Fixture etc. He has been Chairman of Umpire Committee, Vice Chairman of IPL.
With a long standing experience of four decades in cricket activities, exposure to regional, national and international sports bodies and an ability to plan, execute and manage important sports events, Niranjan Shah has been extending inestimable service for the promotion of cricket in general and for phenomenal growth and development of the cricket in Saurashtra region as well as national-international level.
Currently he is the Chairman of National Cricket Academy - BCCI.
