Well Done Jaydev. I must say I am the only one who has seen you as promising young upcoming cricketer when I was captain and you made a debut in Ranji Trophy team. I have seen you as clever and very successful captain when I played under your captainship. And I have seen lot more leadership qualities when I became a coach of Ranji Team and you are captaining the side. It’s been absolute pleasure being with you in all 3 different roles. You have been a great servant of Saurashtra Cricket. All the very best for your 2nd innings mate.

My friend Jaydev has declared retirement. Since he started his career in cricket in 2002 till today, we both have been together . We are two sides of a single coin. Besides being a superb cricketer, he is having extraordinary leadership skills. In the field of Cricket, he has proved himself to be outstanding player, but outside the cricket field, he is a tremendous human being. I wish him all the very best for his second innings.

When Jaydev made his debut against Vidarbha in 2002-03 on VCA Stadium, I was part of that team. He looked like a young man with full of zeal and enthusiasm who was keen to learn. Within few games he made mark of himself as established player. When Jaydev led the Saurashtra Ranji team for the first time, I was part of that team too. Saurashtra is a big geographical area where players come from different part with various background and different level of understanding. He was very encouraging leader who wanted his team to do well. He would listen to everyone and discuss finer points of the game with seniors and coach. One good thing about his captaincy was he made everybody in the team feel comfortable and assured. The success of Saurashtra over the period of last 10-15 years is largely thanks to the way Jaydev has led the team and the way he has treated his teammates. “Work hard and enjoy the game” was always his mantra as a skipper. As he proudly walks out of the First class cricket after record 120 matches, his numbers suggest how hard he has worked for this achievement. Outright win against a formidable team like Karnataka was a fitting farewell by team Saurashtra to their loving skipper. He has been a great team man and a true friend, I wish him the best for the life ahead.

Dear Jaydev , it was golden opportunity to play with you. We will never forget those days. Our team has been the best Saurashtra team, you kept our team as a family. You are the best captain Saurashtra will have. I will never forget your inning in semi final of Vijay Hazare Trophy against Karnataka and we became champion. All the best for your future.

In Australia when a cricketer retires people ask why and not when ? Jaydev has set that trend in Indian cricket. Oh why did you retire ? He has been one of the finest cricketer Saurashtra has produced. I was fortunate enough to be his coach when he made his debut in 1st Class cricket. He was a very fine left handed batsman but above all a very astute and thinking captain who by leading from the front took Saurashtra cricket to dizzying height as his record shows. A wonderful cricketer and above all a wonderful human being. He was always there for everyone. We will miss you Oh captain. Since you have drawn the curtain down on your glittering cricketing career i wish you, Ruchi and Prahaan heartfelt best wishes for your future endevours in life. God bless you.
- Rajendra Jadeja
Hearing about Jaydev hanging his boots comes as a huge surprise to me. Having known him closely over the years and especially through the two seasons of Gujarat Lions, I feel he still had lot to offer on the field. I often refer to him as a gentleman cricketer, both off and on the field. Saurashtra Cricket will miss a proven leader. I wish he continues to be associated with the game and also wish him the very best in all his future endevours.
